While I was back in Healdsburg, the good folks at Blurb and the PR agency Knock Twice organized a day trip for some freelance food writers to get an up close view of what inspired my book, “Gatherings.”
The day started at Diavola Pizzeria & Salumeria in Geyserville, where Chef Dino Bugica prepared a seasonal lunch featuring his house-made salumis and his wood-fired pizzas including two signature pies – “The Dictator” – a sublime combination of thinly sliced rib-eye & kimchi and “The Reuben” which is – you guessed it – a pizza with the ingredients of the classic sandwich using a house-made pastrami. beyond tasty!!
We were joined by winemakers Kevin Rogers of Nico Wines, Sam Bilbro of Idlewild Wines & Sebastian Pochan of Unti Vineyards who each poured a selection of their current offerings. You can get more info on these fine winemakers in the Wednesday Winemaker section of this site, too!
No better way to understand the community spirit that permeates this area than to experience it first hand!
Enjoy the photos by Blurb’s photographer at large – Dan Milnor – who also did the shots for “Gatherings.”
And stay tuned for more pics from our stops at Jimtown Store, Bergamot Alley & Campo Fina.
